An Un-American Order

“Federal Judge blocks Trump order on birthright citizenship” (Fresnobee.com, Jan.23)

Trump’s Executive Order to end Birthright Citizenship has been called “blatantly unconstitutional” and “mind-boggling” by Senior U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour (a Ronald Reagan appointee). The order, due to go into effect February 19th, runs roughshod over the Constitutional Rights of children born on U.S. soil to immigrant parents.

The citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment is plain and unambiguous, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” 

Any person born in the United States (except the children of foreign diplomats) is an American citizen!  About 25,000 children each year are born in California to immigrant parents.  These American citizens would be subject to draconian effects if this order were to go into effect.  They would be deportable at any time, and would not have access to Healthcare, Children’s Health Insurance, Federal Programs that provide food or housing assistance, and many other privileges of citizenship.

On Day One of his Presidency, Donald Trump managed to trample over the U.S. Constitution and attack American citizens, including innocent children.  This Executive Order is illegal, reprehensible, and Un-American.
