Fresno County Democratic Central Committee Condemns Board of Supervisors’ “Traditional Nuclear Family Month” Resolution

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FRESNO COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CENTRAL COMMITTEE CONDEMNS BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ “TRADITIONAL NUCLEAR FAMILY MONTH” RESOLUTION

June 22, 2026

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee strongly opposes the Fresno County Board of
Supervisors’ decision to designate June as “Traditional Nuclear Family Month.”

At a time when Fresno County families are facing rising costs, housing challenges, public safety
concerns, and threats to essential services, a majority of the Board chose to spend its time
advancing a divisive political statement that excludes and diminishes many of the families who
make up our community.

Fresno County is home to families of every kind: married couples, single parents, blended
families, grandparents raising grandchildren, foster and adoptive families, and LGBTQ+ parents
raising children with love and commitment. These families are no less deserving of recognition,
respect, and support.

Government should not be in the business of deciding which families count and which do not.
Strong communities are built by supporting all families, not by elevating one narrow definition
while excluding others.

We are particularly disappointed that this resolution was brought forward during Pride Month,
sending a message to LGBTQ+ residents that their families are somehow less worthy of
acknowledgment. Such symbolism does nothing to improve the lives of Fresno County residents
and distracts from the real challenges facing our county.

We commend those who stood against this divisive measure and recognized that love,
commitment, responsibility, and care—not political ideology—define a family.

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee remains committed to building a county
where every resident is treated with dignity, every family is respected, and local government
focuses on solving problems rather than creating divisions.

All Fresno County families deserve representation. All Fresno County families deserve respect.
And all Fresno County families deserve leaders who will work to improve their lives rather than
score political points at their expense.
