Happy International Women’s Day!

Will you help me celebrate this first step for our campaign with a contribution?CONTRIBUTE TODAY »As California’s first Black woman Secretary of State, it’s always been my top priority to protect all our state’s voices. Women were withheld from our nation’s founding promise of equality for too long. This is particularly true for Black women who experienced both sexism and racism when fighting for access. Even with the protections of the 19th Amendment and the Voting Rights Act, women’s voices are still underrepresented in the halls of leadership.
We only make up a little over a quarter of members of Congress, and of fifty states, only nine have female governors. Both these statistics are records for female representation!
We can change this with our votes. I have always said that voting is our great equalizer. Our votes are worth equal measure regardless of gender, and with the power of voting comes the power to choose your representation.
It’s been the honor of my career to represent the voters of California, and I hope you’ll join my campaign to continue as your chief elections officer.
