Friend —

I’m passionate about legalizing marijuana because to me, it’s a basic question of fairness and freedom of choice for the American people. And since 60% of voters support legalizing pot, it’s clear that the American people agree. It appalls me that marijuana is considered a Schedule 1 drug, alongside heroin, and that our country arrested 600,000 people just for possession in 2017 alone. Meanwhile, Big Pharma gets off scot free for pushing highly addictive opioids on to patients who don’t need them. Justice means expunging the records of those with marijuana possession charges and fully prosecuting Big Pharma for fueling an opioid epidemic that has killed thousands.

If you’re getting this email, I believe you want my kind of common sense, bipartisan approach — on marijuana, Medicare, education and foreign policy — leading our country.

Will you make a donation TODAY on 4/20 to support common sense marijuana policy in the White House?

The costs of our current, draconian policies on marijuana are disproportionately borne by medical patients, veterans and communities of color. Rather than being grounded in science and evidence, our current policies are driven by myths, stigma and racial bias. Although black and Latino populations use and sell drugs at a similar rate as whites, they make up 57% of the incarcerated population in spite of being only 25% of the overall U.S. population.

That’s why one of the bills I introduced in Congress was to create one central study on the impact of legalization in various states — to provide hard evidence disputing what prohibitionists say will happen in communities once medical and recreational marijuana, and hemp products like CBD oil are legalized. I also introduced a second bill that would legalize marijuana on the federal level and allow states the freedom to regulate marijuana as they choose, without federal interference.

The drug war is used as an excuse to militarize the border and increase our country’s prison population — the largest in the world. As President, I will work to end the present hypocritical drug policies that hurt rather than help the American people and reward the reckless greed of Big Pharma and the drug lobby.

Click here to donate $4.20, $42 or $420 for smarter and more compassionate drug policies.

With deep aloha,

Tulsi
