We have a big announcement…

Democrats/Join us.

Let’s face it: While our Democratic presidential candidates are making their case to voters, Donald Trump and the RNC are building a massive re-election effort.

Unless the national Democratic Party spends the next year taking major steps to build an organization that can help elect the next Democratic president, whoever wins our primary will start out against Trump at an enormous disadvantage — one they may never be able to overcome. Today, I’m excited to announce that we’re launching a major new program to address that problem and help elect the next Democratic president: Organizing Corps 2020.

Organizing Corps 2020 is an unprecedented, multi-million dollar investment by the Democratic Party and its partners that will recruit, pay, and train young people to work on the 2020 presidential cycle, starting this year. With a particular focus on mentoring students from communities of color who have often been underrepresented among campaign staff, the program will ensure the eventual Democratic nominee has the support of 1,000 homegrown field organizers ready to hit the ground in some key battleground states and help win the White House in November 2020.

To be honest with you, we’re taking a bit of a risk by funding Organizing Corps 2020 — it’s a huge investment, and we’re making it early in the cycle — well before we usually see our fundraising spike. I really believe that this program could be the difference between the Democratic presidential nominee winning or losing a key battleground state in 2020 — and that could be the whole ballgame. But the only way it’ll work is if grassroots supporters like you step up this year to help build our eventual nominee’s field team. This simply won’t work if we wait until 2020. So I’m asking:

In 2016 we lost Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin by fewer than 80,000 combined votes — if we had won those states, Donald Trump would never have become president. By building a diverse team of organizers early in those states, we can close that gap through voter registration, mobilization, and persuasion.

It is absolutely imperative to have organizers on the ground listening to and learning from their communities year-round — not just in the days or months leading up to the election. And it’s absolutely imperative that we build the next generation of Democratic organizers for both our nominee and our party’s future. Organizing Corps 2020 will build a powerful pipeline of young talent that will help us win elections for years to come.

That work is so important, and I am counting on grassroots supporters like you to be a part of it. It’s going to take all of us coming together now to support programs like Organizing Corps 2020 so our eventual nominee has a field team that can match Donald Trump’s.

Thanks for being a part of the team!
