The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.
No, I’m not a career politician with a war chest. I’m an experienced policy maker – with local, legislative and state experience. Every time I’ve run for office, I haven’t been expected to win. Guess what? I’ve never lost a race.
I’m running for Governor of California because California can and must do better. We must:
- offer universal preschool, full-day kindergarten and make education a priority from preschool to graduate school;
- provide healthcare to all with access to affordable prescription drugs;
- protect our fragile climate and support critical initiatives to protect our air, land and water;
- create more affordable housing and work to eliminate homelessness; and develop long-range plans so our investments in education, transportation, infrastructure and other needs are thoughtful and visionary.
When I ran for Superintendent in 1994 I beat a bipartisan field of twelve candidates in the primary, and I went on to win the General Election during a landslide Republican year. I proceeded to win re-election in 1998 despite a last minute sneak attack of over $1 million funded by six wealthy men. This has been the story of my political career — and I expect this race to be no different.
Please invest in my campaign today here. It’s not all about the money, but I need enough financial resources to be able to reach voters all over our great state. I know if we prioritize education and our children, the future will be bright for California.
My first fundraising deadline is at the end of this month. I don’t have the big bucks of some career politicians, but I hope I have you. Please contribute what you can today. Here is the link.
