Highest turnout in 20 years

*** Alex Padilla has been endorsed for Secretary of State by the CDP ***

Last Friday, we certified the results of the June 5th Statewide Primary and here’s what we found: voter turnout is on the rise!

California saw the highest turnout for a gubernatorial primary in 20 years, with more than 7.1 million Californians casting their ballots. Compare that to 4.4 million ballots cast in the last gubernatorial primary just four years ago. That’s an increase of more than 2.6 million ballots cast!

And it’s no coincidence. California is leading the way by making voting more accessible and convenient with in-person early voting, online voter registration, automatic voter registration, same day registration, expanded vote-by-mail, and, in the Voters Choice Act counties, the flexibility to vote at any vote center in the county over the course of 11 days.

But with the future of voting rights, labor rights, health care, civil rights, environmental protections, immigration reform and more in the balance this November, it’s critical that we carry this momentum into the general election.

Now is the time for us to speak out and make sure every Californian has their voice heard in our democracy — click here to make sure you’re registered to vote, and share this with your friends, family, and neighbors who might not be registered.
