a long way to go

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.

This campaign has come a long way. A few months ago I was just a prosecutor in central California who was frustrated with our leadership in Congress, but now I’m part of a movement to challenge Devin Nunes, Washington politics, and the Trump administration’s dangerous policies.

This campaign is about serving the people of California’s 22nd district. We stand for ensuring healthcare for all Americans, for supporting California’s families and business owners, and protecting our environment.

I’m so proud of what we’ve done together, so let’s keep the momentum going. Are you following us on social media yet?

We couldn’t have gotten this far without your support. We’ve come so far, but we still have a long way to go before we vote Devin Nunes out of office.

Thank you for everything,

My record for the environment

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.

Dear Democrat,

I live in the city of Richmond, where the fights are often between neighbors and nearby Chevron.  In my neighborhood, the oil industry has been known to drop $3 million on a city council race.  Standing up to Big Oil and fighting for the environment is a commitment that runs deep for me – it dates back to my days representing my neighbors on the Richmond City Council, on our local school board, and even now as a California State Assemblymember.

I’m grateful to the Sierra Club for holding our elected leaders accountable on environmental issues, and I’m proud that the Sierra Club has once again recognized my record on environmental issues with a 100% rating for 2017.

To me, protecting our environment and serving our kids go hand in hand.  When our kids are healthy, they learn better.  When we invest in clean technology and renewable energy, we improve futures for our students, both in their career opportunities and in their futures as California residents.

I’m running for State Superintendent of Public Instruction to serve all of California’s kids, and to me, that includes protecting our environment.  As top official for education in the state, I’ll support environmental literacy in schools, green school campuses, and other initiatives to ensure that the next generation will carry on California’s legacy as a global leader for the environment.

I hope to have your support in this effort.  If you haven’t already, please fill out our delegate contact form here so that we can continue to communicate about our shared values for California.

With your support and with supporters including Kamala Harris, Tom Torlakson, and the California Teacher Association, I would be honored to lead for students and the environment as your State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Thank you,

Tony Thurmond

The candidate challenging Dianne Feinstein

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.

Okay we got a big one for you folks: We’ve got a candidate to challenge Dianne Feinstein, maybe the biggest corporate Dem of them all! I’m going to introduce you to Alison Hartman, the people’s candidate for California, in a second. But first, if she’s going to have a shot, you need to chip in for critical start-up costs:

Chip in $2.70 right now to help Alison get the tools she needs to beat corporate Democrat Dianne Feinstein!

Progressives have to defeat Feinstein. She’s voted with Trump nearly 1/3rd of the time since he was elected. She said “heck no” to Medicare for All after taking donations from the biggest Insurance lobbyists in the country!

Now let me tell you how awesome the Justice Democrat candidate is. Alison is a high school teacher turned pro-Democracy activist. She stepped up to direct WolfPAC, our grassroots campaign finance reform effort — and now she’s running for Senate to end corruption and halt the flow of dark money into our elections. Alison won’t be taking a single dime from corporate PACs, and she won’t be getting checks from billionaires. This campaign is only going to work if YOU give Allison the resources she needs to get her message to the voters!

First things first: She has to raise $147,000 by midnight on Monday to pay for this tool called PDI – political data interface. That’s the targeted database of every California voter that she’ll need to start her HUGE field campaign to spread the progressive message!

Chip in right now to help Alison close the gap on that $147,000 goal.

If you’ve saved payment info with ActBlue Express, you won’t have to type in your credit card:

Contribute $10

Contribute $27

Contribute $50

Contribute $100

Contribute $250

Other amount

I know what you’re thinking… this is a HUGE goal. You guys have never raised so much money in such a small amount of time for any Justice Democrat yet. But this early cash is absolutely crucial if progressives want to win this race — there’s no other way around it.

Dianne Feinstein has millions of dollars on hand. She’s got the entire establishment behind her. But we progressives have the people on our side. If we can raise $147,000 and buy the PDI voter file, we’re going to get Alison’s strong message out to every single California voter. And we’re going to win.

Add your contribution right now — this only works if everyone gives a little bit.

I’m excited about this campaign because Alison is family. She’s one of us — a true populist progressive. It’s the biggest campaign yet to wrestle power away from the establishment, and I know if we come together we can win.

Women and organizations unite to endorse Delaine

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.

We are thrilled to announce that Delaine recently earned the endorsement of the The Feminist Majority and the California Democratic Women’s Legislative Caucus, following the endorsement earlier this year from the National Women’s Political Caucus of California. Trailblazing organizations that support women and women leaders across California are stepping forward to support her bid for governor. Please support Delaine today with a generous contribution.

Former Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan of Alamo stated, “Delaine’s legacy of groundbreaking accomplishments in public life in California speaks for itself. I know that as governor Delaine will usher in a new era of opportunity for every Californian. Her rigor when it comes to policy making and long term planning, and her ability to bring the best people together to do their best work, give me great hope for my grandchildren’s futures…and the futures of their grandchildren.

Former Assemblywoman Leona Egeland Rice of Napa said, “Delaine Eastin is a problem solving optimist; a “yes-we-can” leader. I want her to be my leader.”

These women know all too well how difficult it is to elect women, especially to executive offices. Delaine is still the only woman elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction and, if elected, will be California’s first woman governor.

Included in her esteemed list of endorsers are these women legislators: Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, former State Senator Dede Alpert, and former Assemblywomen Joan Buchanan, Lori Saldaña, Leona Egeland Rice, Virginia Strom-Martin, and Sally Tanner. In addition, the list of female county supervisors, mayors, city councilwomen and school board members continues to grow.

Commit now to a monthly contribution to help Delaine reach more supporters and build our base. If you are connected on ActBlue click below for an instant contribution:

700,000 Member Strong SEIU California State Council Picks Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez for Lieutenant Governor

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — Underscoring his deep commitment to the labor movement and fighting for working families, today State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ campaign for California Lieutenant Governor was endorsed by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California State Council.

Comprised of 700,000 members across the state, from healthcare workers and nurses to security guards, long term care workers, school employees and local and state government employees, among scores of others, the SEIU California State Council is the largest union in the state of California.

In making their endorsement public, Bob Schoonover, SEIU Local 721 President released the following statement:

“California’s working families need a proven champion in their next Lieutenant Governor. That’s why SEIU California State Council is proud to endorse Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez. He’s got an unmatched record of fighting for our members and the labor movement, and we know we can count on him to continue leading the charge for higher wages, universal healthcare, good benefits and a fair, growing and thriving middle class economy as our next Lieutenant Governor. From fighting against Big Pharma to address sky-high drug pricing and Big Tobacco to raise California’s smoking age to 21, to creating jobs and raising the state’s minimum wage, Ed Hernandez has been a bold and effective leader for working people. We look forward to doing everything we can to ensure he becomes California’s next Lieutenant Governor.”

Also noting the high-powered endorsement, Wynona Spears, SEIU-UHW Executive Board Member and Licensed Vocational Nurse from Kaiser-Downey, remarked:

“We take great care in making decisions about who to support in statewide races like Lieutenant Governor of California. It’s why Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ unique background and experience stood out to SEIU members like me. He’s been on the forefront of the battle for stronger workers’ rights laws and has supported progressive policies like healthcare for all. Senator Hernandez has stood in solidarity with SEIU and that’s why SEIU is excited to stand in solidarity with him.”

Over 700,000 Californians make up SEIU in California. Their members work throughout the state, in all 58 counties, and they represent California in all of its diversity. SEIU members are social workers, nurses, classroom aides, state workers, security officers, college professors, home care workers, janitors, and more. They work in four primary areas: healthcare, long-term care, public services (both state workers and local), and building services.

To date, Senator Hernandez has won endorsements from over 50 organizations that represent working women and men, including the California Teachers Association just last week.

Significantly, just weeks ago, California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’ groundbreaking drug transparency bill, SB-17, into law.  Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times. Renee highlights Senator Hernandez’ efforts to combat skyrocketing drug costs in the ad.

To view Hernandez’ “Life or Death” spot, click on the screen shot below:

Unshaken by big moneyed special interests, Hernandez not only has taken on Big Pharma but also fought Big Tobacco, as the architect of California’s landmark law to raise the state’s smoking age to 21.

In addition to today’s news, Senator Hernandez has raised over $2 million for the statewide effort and has locked in far-reaching support across California.

Several months back, Senator Hernandez released his first digital video, titled  “A California Story,” which can be viewed by clicking on the screen image below:

Beyond today’s announcement, Senator Dr. Hernandez’ campaign has released an expansive list of over 400 endorsements from grassroots activists, community leaders, federal, state and local elected officials, public safety groups and over 50 labor unions.

A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities.  As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.

Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.
