WFDC Candidates Forum: 10/06/18-Your Message to the Grassroots

Hello, Candidates:

In this busy midterm election season it is difficult to carve out time for one more event. However, the West Fresno

Democratic Club hopes that you will do just that.

WFDC’s forum is to be a bit different than most. Our moderator, Rev Dr Floyd Harris, will keep things moving and

invite the public to ask important questions about: police brutality, environmental racism, sub-par schools, the school

to prison pipeline, crushing poverty, homelessness, and office holder accountability.

The forum will be held at New Light for New Life Church, 1106 West Woodward, from 10 am to 1 pm. Refreshments

will be provided.

These issues are important to Southwest Fresno and the greater Fresno area. We sincerely hope you can attend.

Thanking You In Advance,

Aline Reed

President, West Fresno Democratic Club

Shortly, Dr. Blasey Ford will begin her testimony.  For me, and perhaps for you, the past few weeks listening to this administration and this Congress have painfully reinforced the ways they seek to discredit and demean women.

I know that as many of you have shared your stories of assault, and as you have supported your friends and family members who have come forward, you have experienced doubt and disdain. Thank you for speaking out and for supporting others.

We know that women’s claims of assault are too often dismissed, yet we also see men thanked for coming forward when speaking of their abuse by priests (for example). We need to thank the courageous women — and men — all over our country who are coming forth now and sharing their histories of abuse, and we need to commit to doing whatever we can to stop this violence.

We also see the ‘leaders’ on the Judiciary Committee delegating what can only be called an interrogation of Dr. Blasey Ford to, as Mitch McConnell says, ‘a female assistant’. Are they protecting her, sensitive to her trauma and that experienced in the past by Anita Hill? No, they are protecting their seats, because they don’t want to look like they are attacking the victim. Despicable.

This is not acceptable. Nor is Brett Kavenaugh acceptable as a Supreme Court Justice. He is not fit to serve on any bench, in my opinion. And yes, we are all innocent until proven guilty, but this is also about the character of someone who will serve on the Supreme Court for a lifetime.

The claims — from the initial and brave disclosure by Dr. Blasey Ford, to the statement by his freshman college roommate about his excessive drinking— to the new revelations coming out with more frequency as women weigh the importance of sharing their stories with the pain of exposing themselves and their families to the aggressive attacks that Dr. Ford is experiencing — are alarming.

My heart goes out to all of you who are suffering as a result of abuse you or your loved ones experienced. May this be a new era of accountability for those who abuse and assault women and children — and anyone. The statistics are alarming, and the impact is lifelong for the victims.

Keep fighting. I’m right there with you.

In solidarity,

New Devin Nunes ad

View this email in your browser

Dear Fresno,

With 6 weeks to go until Election Day, we have launched a new round of ads holding Devin Nunes accountable for living the high life on his donors’ dime — spending $40,000 on lavish five-star trips to Vegas and $15,000 for Boston Celtics tickets!

Please donate today so we can keep these ads running for the next six weeks. We’ve never been closer to unseating Devin Nunes than we are today but we can’t make it happen without your support.

While voters in CA-22 were begging the congressman to come back to Fresno to hold a town hall meeting, Nunes was off blowing special interest cash on fancy trips and limousine rides. Farmers are getting burned by a trade war with China, but Devin Nunes is spending his time everywhere but in the district.

When we launched Fight Back CA back in June 2017, we promised to hold House Republicans accountable for not representing the values and needs of their constituents. That’s what we’ve been doing for the past 126 days in Devin Nunes’ district, so we can flip CA-22 from red to blue and take back the House on November 6.

As Election Day approaches, we hope you will continue to support our fight to save our democracy, get rid of Trump’s primary enabler, and win back a Democratic majority in Congress.

With only six weeks to go, please contribute what you can today. We are in the final stretch and need you on our side.

Thank you for your support and keep fighting!

LA Times: “Hernandez has been a legislator of substance and persistence who’s taken on powerful special interests.”

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today the Los Angeles Times, California’s largest and most prestigious newspaper, formally endorsed State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez for California Lieutenant Governor, writing:

Senator Hernandez “knows his way around state agencies and the Legislature, making him better prepared to step into the governor’s office in a crisis. That gives him an edge over [Eleni] Kounalakis in this race.”

The Times highlighted Sen. Hernandez’s work leading the Senate Health Committee adding, “he shepherded a number of tough, smart bills through the Legislature. These include laws prohibiting the sale of short-term “junk” health insurance plans that do not comply with the Affordable Care Act and requiring drug makers to reveal more about their price-setting practices.”

“The state boards that Hernandez would sit on if he wins do weigh in on substantial matters,” the Times Editorial board wrote, adding “Hernandez’s expertise is valuable, and the next governor would be wise to avail himself of it.”

Senator Hernandez’s latest television commercial, titled “Vision of Progress,” highlights Senator Hernandez’s legislative accomplishments ranging from environmental protection laws to advancing healthcare for all and cracking down on the skyrocketing prices of prescription drugs.

Senator Hernandez also recently announced a pivotal endorsement from the California Labor Federation in addition to over 80 labor unions supporting his campaign for Lieutenant Governor.

In February, Senator Hernandez was the top vote getter among delegates at the California Democratic Party convention. With 1,157 votes cast in his favor at the California Democratic Party convention, Senator Hernandez received more delegate votes than any candidate running for Governor of California, where the top vote getter earned 1,087 votes, as well as more votes than California’s incumbent U.S. Senator, who received 1,023. Senator Hernandez triumphed at convention despite not surpassing the high 60% vote threshold required to win the endorsement.

Recently, State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez rolled out a new digital video ad, titled “Proven Progressive,” in his campaign for California Lieutenant Governor. The ad highlights some of the Senator’s high-powered endorsements, including from the California Nurses Association and the California Teachers Association, along with his 100% legislative voting scorecard from organizations like the California Labor Federation* and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California Advocates*.

Significantly, recently California Governor Jerry Brown signed Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez’s groundbreaking drug transparency bill, SB-17, into law.  Senator Hernandez’s latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times. Renee highlights Senator Hernandez’ efforts to combat skyrocketing drug costs in the ad.

A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities.  As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.

Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.

Visalia Janz Headquarters Broken Into, Vandalized

Visalia Janz Headquarters Broken Into, Vandalized

Fresno, CA (September 24th, 2018) – Monday morning Visalia Police Department responded to a call at the Janz Campaign HQ. The property owners made the call when they discovered multiple windows on the north side of the building had been vandalized. The windows had been broken in by an unknown object and used to enter the building. The suspect(s) took the office phone and it is still unclear if they took anything else.

“The Visalia Police Department has responded to the break in of our office and are currently investigating. I appreciate their quick and professional response. While the threats of violence on our property and to ourselves continue on this campaign, I encourage my supporters and every Central Valley resident to stay focused on the important issues that bring our community together. I have faced down threats from gang members in open court, my family and I have been under police protection during trials, it will take more than a few broken windows to stop the amazing grassroots support of this campaign.” Andrew said.

The Visalia Police Department are currently investigating the incident.

Andrew Janz was raised in Visalia and is running for Congress against Devin Nunes in California’s 22nd Congressional District. Andrew’s campaigning on water for the valley, more jobs, social security and medicaid, and fighting corruption in Washington. Andrew Janz is 34 years old and resides in Fresno with his wife Heather and their two dogs.
