Trump disgraces US

I am beyond outraged.

The Trump administration has brought us nonstop offensive comments and disgraceful moment after disgraceful moment.

We were offended when Trump kicked off his campaign by declaring Mexicans are “bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”

We were offended when Trump mocked Serge Kovaleski, a reporter with a disability.

We were offended when Trump campaigned on a “total and complete shut down of Muslims entering the United States.”

We were offended last year when neo-nazis and the KKK marched in broad daylight in Charlottesville, turned violent, and Trump refused to unequivocally denounce white supremacy.

We were offended when Trump pardoned Joe Arpaio, the Arizona sheriff who was convicted of violating the civil rights of Latinos and immigrants.

We were offended when during a meeting on immigration, Trump called El Salvador, Haiti, and various countries in Africa “shithole countries.”

We were offended at the sight of hundreds of children and families seeking asylum who were torn apart from their families and detained in inhumane and traumatic conditions. Hundreds still remain in unjust custody with many children missing and unaccounted for.

We were offended last year at Trump’s refusal to adequately help the thousands of American Citizens living in Puerto Rico when Hurricane Maria devastated the island. Nearly 3,000 US citizens died and Trump called emergency efforts an “unsung success.”

And now this: at a rally in Mississippi on Tuesday night, Trump mocked Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault. The crowd laughed and cheered him on.

This is beyond unacceptable. This is unconscionable behavior and an insult to survivors everywhere.

Trump has caused tremendous division, harm, and hate in this country.

As Civil Rights Heroine Fannie Lou Hamer once said, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired!” We need to elect leaders who will stand up to Trump and defend the true values of our country.

Let’s all do our part. Register. Vote. And make sure every voter you know casts their ballot this November.

Thank you for fighting for our democracy.

And thank you for supporting survivors,

Alex Padilla
California Secretary of State

The “Valadao strategy”

TJ Cox for Congress

We have about one month to execute our FINAL get-out-the-vote efforts and spread the word about TJ’s platform to voters in the Central Valley.

Meanwhile, David Valadao, Paul Ryan, and their Republican super PACs are doing everything possible to stop us — including through an all-out smear campaign against TJ on the airwaves.

We call it the “Valadao strategy.” He has no record to run on, so he’s resorting to deceitful smears and scare tactics to try and keep this seat red. Oh, and he’s BANKING on voters staying home and never hearing that he’s voted with Trump 99% of the time in Congress — it’s his only chance to win.

We’re fighting back, Michael — on the airwaves, on the doors, and (most importantly) with our values. We need your help in these final weeks to make sure we can let every last undecided voter know that there’s an alternative in California’s 21st district. Can you chip in a donation before the end of the night?

If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Valadao is a politician who has voted to take health care away from hundreds of thousands of Californians. TJ has spent the last decade investing in clinics that provide health care access to thousands in need in the Central Valley.

The misleading and, frankly, disgusting ads that Valadao is running against TJ Cox are only meant to distract from the fact that his agenda is the opposite of what Californians really want to see from Washington.

Help us fight back. Chip in $10 or more right away to help send Democrat TJ Cox to represent us in our nation’s capital >>

Lessons from my mother

TJ Cox for Congress

Growing up, my mother wasn’t one for excuses. “Mug Trabajo Ka,” she would tell me in her native Tagalog.

Translation? “Get to work…kiddo.”

That ethic she instilled in me — of hard work and integrity — is a part of the reason I’m running for Congress today. Because from where I’m standing, Congress needs to get to work to fix the issues we face — on trade, water, and immigration. That’s not happening under David Valadao and the special interests guiding his agenda.

Can you take a minute to watch our new ad “Fix it” then chip in a donation to make sure we can get this ad in front of voters in the Central Valley?

Watch the ad

I’m sick and tired of Republican politicians — like David Valadao — who whine that Democrats are the reason they can’t get anything done in Congress. Michael, last I checked, they have control of the House, Senate, and the White House.

We don’t need excuses. We need someone who will actually stand up to Donald Trump and get to work for our communities. That’s what I plan to do in Congress.

Check out our new ad, then chip in a donation to make sure voters across our district see this >>

Thanks for your support,

TJ Cox

Senator Harris Statement on Confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh

Senator Harris Statement on Confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh

WASHINGTON, D.C.    –– U.S. Senator Kamala D. Harris, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement on her vote on the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to be Associate Justice of the Supreme Court:

““ When Judge Brett Kavanaugh was first nominated, I said that he represents a direct and fundamental threat to that promise inscribed above the Supreme Court, ‘‘ Equal Justice Under Law. ’’

In the weeks since then, the basis for my concern has been confirmed.

Senate Republicans used raw power to rush an unfit nominee onto the Supreme Court when the American people have more questions than answers about Judge Kavanaugh ’’ s suitability to serve.

When Dr. Christine Blasey Ford came forward with serious and credible allegations of sexual assault, not only was she attacked by Senate Republicans, she was mocked by the President of the United States. The White House then prevented the FBI from investigating critical aspects of the allegations or interviewing key witnesses —— not even permitting the FBI to interview Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford.

As a former prosecutor, I have led investigations and I have tried these cases in a courtroom. I have spent countless hours with assault survivors. And when I look at what has occurred over these few days, we have fallen short in fulfilling our constitutional duty to fully evaluate Judge Kavanaugh ’’ s nomination. This process has been a disservice to Dr. Ford. This process was a disservice to survivors everywhere. And this process has been a disservice to the American people.

The Judge Kavanaugh the American people saw before the Judiciary Committee does not have the character, the temperament, or the judgment to sit on the highest court in our land. His own partisan, evasive, dishonest, and aggressive testimony demonstrates that we cannot trust him to be a fair and unbiased jurist. He is simply unfit. The Senate should have put partisanship aside and demanded better.

Millions of Americans are rightly outraged at this hasty and unjust process, which threatens to cloud the legitimacy of the Supreme Court of the United States. And they are rightly fearful that Justice Kavanaugh will undermine Roe v. Wade, roll back access to affordable healthcare, and side with powerful and partisan interests over the most vulnerable.

It is now up to each of us to continue to fight for justice and equality and hold our government accountable. ””

“This is a monumentally easy call”

This week, the LA Times endorsed Xavier.

This wasn’t your average endorsement either — this was a resounding stamp of approval for Xavier’s record, his leadership, and his courage to stand up for the rights of Californians. In the words of the LA Times Editorial Board:

“This is a monumentally easy call. Becerra has set a good direction, and voters would be wise to give him a full four-year term.”

Keep up the momentum in the final month before Election Day. Contribute $5 now to help Xavier keep up the fight.

The LA Times praised Xavier for his work to protect our state and values “from a series of onslaughts by the Trump administration.”

That includes fighting a new Trump administration lawsuit that could destroy the free and open internet by attacking California’s new net neutrality law. It includes suing the EPA to defend California’s clean car stands. It includes defending the Affordable Care Act in court.

In all, Xavier has filed 44 lawsuits to stop the worst of the Trump administration’s policies. Meanwhile, our GOP opponent is running on a platform of “standing down in the state’s defense against the Trump administration.”

Contribute $5 now to make sure Xavier wins in November and can keep taking on President Trump.

We’ve got just over 30 days left in this election and Xavier is counting on your support.

Thank you,
