Statement of California Democratic Party Chair Eric C. Bauman on SB 562:

This evening, Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement on the passage of SB 562 in the Senate:

“Once again, California Democrats are leading where it matters most — the health of our people. Today we’ve taken a historic first step to put universal healthcare within reach of every Californian.

“California Democrats, I thank each and every one of you who made today’s Senate victory on SB 562 possible. You led our Party to declare, loudly and proudly, that ‘California Democrats believe that healthcare is a human right not a privilege‘ as we adopted a resolution re-affirming our commitment to single-payer healthcare. You dug deep into your hearts to share your stories of the pain, loss, and bankruptcy imposed on families by a healthcare system that puts profits ahead of patients. You were relentless in pressing for votes on the phones, online, and in the halls of the Capitol. Today’s victory belongs to you.

“We are grateful for the leadership of Senators Lara and Atkins who are tireless in their pursuit of healthcare for all.

“I am proud to stand with patients, healthcare workers, and grassroots Democrats from across California as we take this fight to the State Assembly and beyond. With Donald Trump taking a wrecking ball to healthcare at the federal level, Californians have never counted on us more to create a comprehensive, secure, healthcare system that excludes no Californian.”

Trump won’t lead, so we will

With Trump in the White House, California must be a strong leader for climate action. Tell your assemblymember: Vote YES on AB 378.

Call 916-596-0818

Donald Trump just announced that the United States is withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement — ceding America’s climate leadership to our competitors.

But America’s leadership comes from its people — and Trump can’t stop us when we stand together.

By pulling out of the Paris Agreement, Donald Trump has betrayed the moral, political, and economic leadership position America has achieved over centuries at the cost of American lives. Yet the voice of the people remains the most powerful force in the land, and we will be heard.

Trump refuses to lead, and California must step up. Call 916-596-0818: Urge your assemblymember to vote YES on AB 378, California’s landmark polluters pay bill.

Alert: Special counsel appointed to investigate Trump

AB 378 will make polluters pay to clean up their pollution and reinvest that money in energy efficiency, public transit, and clean energy. With a president determined to hinder renewable energy and let corporate polluters off the hook, it’s up to our state and local officials to take the lead.

Together, we can do this.
