Participate in a redistricting workshop March 10

From our friends at the Greenlining Institute comes this invitation:

Redistricting – the process of redrawing state election districts – is one of the most important political processes happening in 2011. It will determine whether your community has a voice in government for the next 10 years.

The Greenlining Institute has launched a state-wide civic engagement campaign to ensure that California’s low-income communities and communities of color are heard as decisions are being made. We will tour the state to host a series of educational workshops and interactive trainings to prepare community members to speak up and stay involved in this important process.

Community members like you know your communities best, and the Citizens Redistricting Commission needs to hear from you. Consider attending one of our educational workshops below and help draw lines that matter! We also encourage you to invite your friends, neighbors, and others in your network. RSVP to for all events.

The event is scheduled 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Sunnyside Regional Library, 5566 E. Kings Canyon Road, in Fresno. For more information, visit any of the following links:

Attend Rep. Denham’s town hall 6 p.m. Monday, March 7

Rep. Jeff Denham has scheduled a town hall meeting to discuss the federal budget, and we need Democrats to be there!

Show up to let him know where the people of Fresno stand on this issue that is so critical to our future. Do not hesitate to ask a question; the people need to know if Denham is on their side. As a general rule, the media will follow up with persons who ask good questions – especially if those questions put the presenter on the spot. Also, be sure to let the media know that you are with the Democratic Party.

The town hall is scheduled 6 p.m. Monday, March 7, at the UC Merced Fresno Center, 550 E. Shaw Ave. in Fresno (map). Official details about the town hall follow:

Representative Jeff Denham (R) CA CD-19 invites you to a townhall meeting on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in Fresno to “discuss the federal budget and the need to cut government spending.”

Congressman Denham will be hosting the budget townhall and Fresno County Supervisor Debbie Poochigian and Fresno City Councilmember Larry Westerlund will join him in the discussion about the President’s budget proposal and the implications it has for the Central Valley.

If you are interested in attending, please contact his Fresno office at (559) 449-2490 for further details and to RSVP.
