Important work we need to renew

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.

Jeff Bleich for Lieutenant Governor 2018 FPPC # 1396288

In the emotional days and weeks following the Columbine shootings, Americans were demanding answers and solutions. President Bill Clinton and his team began gathering all the research they could find. A book I co-authored about causes of youth violence was on the list. He read it, and then asked me to head up his Youth Violence Commission.

We got to work quickly, crafted bipartisan solutions, and launched a campaign to empower families to talk about youth violence and provide pathways to break the cycles of abuse and violence that beget more violence. Unfortunately, the election of George W. Bush in 2000 brought an end to our work.

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about the lives destroyed by preventable violence in our country. Violence rates are rising again, and California can take the lead in changing that with proven solutions. As  Lt. Governor, I can work to rebuild the coalitions that have stopped violence before.

For the past few months, we’ve put together other stories of my work for you to share with your friends, family, and coworkers. It’s our way of helping you spread the word about what drives me, the challenges I’ve confronted, and what we’ve accomplished. Your efforts are clearly making a difference. The videos have been viewed more than 630,000 times – way beyond our expectations.

Thank you for helping and keep sharing. Taking a moment right now to share this video by email and on social media can help people who feel discouraged about what they can do, and see that others are ready to take on the tough challenges we all recognize. I’m grateful that you’ve gotten involved and are making your voice heard.

Thank you,

Fontana Democratic Club, Helen L. Doherty Democratic Club and San Bernardino’s West End Democratic Club Join Forces in Support of Senator Hernandez
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — Demonstrating the breadth and depth of his support as he seeks the office of California Lieutenant Governor, today State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez won a trio of endorsements from local grassroots Democratic Clubs.

Expressing his gratitude for the endorsements, Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez remarked:

“It’s a tremendous honor to have the support of the grassroots activists that make up the Fontana Democratic Club, Helen L. Doherty Democratic Club and the West End Democratic Club. Their backing is a testament to the fact that our message of continuing the progress that California has made, from building a fair economy with good middle class jobs to more investments in schools, cleaner air and water to broader access to healthcare and more, is resonating throughout the state. I’m really grateful for their support and look forward to working closely with them in the months ahead.”

Today’s announcement follows recent endorsements from State Assembly Members Kansen Chu and Laura Friedman. It also comes on the heels of recent news that the California State Legislature passed Senator Dr. Hernandez’ landmark SB-17, a drug transparency bill, which aims to address the cost of life-saving prescription drugs. The bill won widespread bi-partisan support.

Senator Hernandez’ latest digital video ad, titled, “Life or Death,” features a moving testimonial from Kendall Renee, a nationally renowned activist and singer, who is allergic to more than 95% of foods and carries at least four EpiPens with her at all times.

Unshaken by big moneyed special interests, Hernandez not only has taken on Big Pharma but also fought Big Tobacco, as the architect of California’s landmark law to raise the state’s smoking age to 21.

In addition to today’s news, Senator Hernandez has raised over $2 million for the statewide effort and has locked in far-reaching support across California.

Several months back, Senator Hernandez released his first digital video, titled  “A California Story,” which can be viewed by clicking on the screen image below:

Beyond today’s announcement, Senator Dr. Hernandez’ campaign has released an expansive list of over 400 endorsements from grassroots activists, community leaders, federal, state and local elected officials, public safety groups and close to 50 labor unions.

A husband, father, grandfather, practicing optometrist, and local businessman, “Dr. Ed” (as he is known to his patients) has spent his life bringing quality eye care to predominantly low-income communities.  As a health care provider, the need to improve access to health care for all Californians is what first drove him to run for office.

Since being elected to the Assembly in 2006 and the Senate in 2010, Dr. Ed Hernandez has been a leader on the implementation of federal health care reform – helping expand access to affordable health care, control costs, and improve the network of providers so people can actually get quality care when they need it. Dr. Ed has been a champion by expanding educational opportunity to qualified students overlooked by our public schools and universities, as well as a major proponent for government reform, including fixing a broken initiative system too often hijacked by billionaires and wealthy corporations. Dr. Ed Hernandez is running to take this experience, leadership, and vision to the next level by serving the people of California as their Lieutenant Governor.
