California must have public internet access for all

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.

Delaine Eastin for Governor 2018

In flagrant disregard to the will of the people, the Federal Communications Commission voted 3-2 to end net neutrality. Net neutrality is a key component to a free and open Internet. Net neutrality prevents internet service providers like Comcast and AT&T from censoring access to content they don’t like, giving higher speeds to content providers who pay more, and charging different rates to consumers to access different types of sites.

I’ve said before that universal access to reliable, high speed Internet service is the equivalent of the Rural Electrification Act that brought electricity to remote and isolated parts of the country and changed Americans’ lives for the better. The Internet is the means by which information is freely accessed in the 21st century. We cannot allow corporations to determine what content is more readily available or unavailable.

While the national fight to protect a free and open Internet is far from over, access to the Internet, and all of the knowledge it contains, is one of the great equalizers.

With the federal government threatening our free and open Internet, California must lead the way and support Municipal/Community based Internet access for ALL Californians.

In October, the late San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee released a well-researched blueprint for a fiber network connecting every home and business in the city. This could well be one model for other California cities and the entire country.

Fundamentally, the Internet should be treated like a public utility. As Governor, I will lead the fight for municipal/community based net neutral, high speed Internet for all Californians.

If you agree, please sign my petition to champion Municipal/Community based Internet in order to ensure Net Neutrality for all Californians.

In solidarity,

Delaine

Progressive Champions Endorse Fiona Ma for Treasurer

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.

Fiona Ma

Democrats are continuing to prove that our commitment to common decency and our unified resistance against bigotry and hate are winning values that can truly change lives.

I was elated to see Doug Jones become the next United States Senator from Alabama on Tuesday, December 12th, and believe this victory speaks to the power of our Democratic movement.

Common decency, progressive values, and a commitment to improving human lives is what drives us as Democrats. That’s why I am proud to announce the endorsements of Equality California and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, two truly great organizations dedicated to defending and advancing our shared progressive values.

“Equality California is proud to support Fiona Ma for State Treasurer,” said EQCA Executive Director Rick Zbur. “Fiona has been a dedicated and early champion for the rights of the LGBTQ community, performing some of the first same-sex marriages in California back in 2004. She will continue to be a passionate advocate for the LGBTQ community and will carry on the fight for equal rights for all Californians, with courage and conviction. EQCA is proud to endorse Fiona Ma, the clear choice for State Treasurer.”

Crystal Strait, President/CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, said:“Fiona Ma has been a true champion for reproductive health care and a key ally in protecting women’s rights. As State Treasurer, Fiona will fight against the Trump Administration and Congress’ efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and will stand with us to ensure funding for preventive and reproductive health care and essential education services. Fiona will be a great State Treasurer, and we are proud to endorse her.”

Will you join progressive champions like Equality California, Planned Parenthood and others in supporting me for State Treasurer?

ENDORSE »

Together, we can continue standing up to the Trump Administration’s unprecedented attacks on common decency and human dignity, and show the world that our progressive values are what make the American Dream possible for millions.

In solidarity,

Fiona Ma, CPA
Candidate for State Treasurer

Every Vote Counts

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.

Delaine Eastin for Governor 2018

Last night I joined our country in celebrating the news that Democrat Doug Jones won the race to be the next Senator from Alabama, replacing now Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III.

A lot of ink has been spilled on Republican candidate Roy Moore who was most recently described as the “most racist senate candidate since David Duke, except Duke didn’t have the backing of the Republican Party.”

Even with reports that the Republican candidate was also a pedophile, this race wasn’t a slam dunk. A majority of white men and women still voted for him.

Doug Jones won because of the overwhelming support of black voters and voters under 40.

One of these young voters was my grand niece Fallon, who voted for the first time, and texted her Auntie Delaine, “It does feel good to be on the right side of history.”

The country won because Doug Jones’ campaign invested in direct voter contact rather than slick tv ads. He won because Democratic voters turned out and Republican voters stayed home.

Alabama Republicans did everything they could to make it hard for Democratic voters, particularly black voters, to vote. This time, it wasn’t enough.

As I am fond of saying, when we stick together on the side of truth and justice, exercising our collective power, no one can break us apart.

See, every vote does matter

The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed any candidate in this race.

Alex Padilla

Last night, the voters of Alabama sent a strong message that they are fighting back against Trump’s dangerous agenda.

However, as thrilled as we are with Doug Jones’ historic win, we can’t ignore the blatant voter suppression tactics that were on full display in Alabama yesterday. From unfair Voter ID laws to police at polling locations and more, the GOP is still working systematically and relentlessly to suppress the vote of mainly minority and low-income voters.

I’m committed to defending against any voter suppression efforts in California.

I’m running for reelection because I believe democracy works best when all eligible voters participate. Would you make a $5 contribution to my Secretary of State campaign so I can continue to work to protect the voting rights of Californians?

As Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

I refuse to see what happened in Alabama happen in California.

We know that the GOP continues to work nationally to suppress the vote, especially the minority vote and the youth vote. They’re doing this because they know that when we show up, we win.

Last night people of color, especially women of color, made sure that Alabama voted on the right side of history.

Now that Alabama voters have spoken, we need to make sure that California continues to build on this momentum in 2018. Please make a $5 contribution now to my reelection campaign so we can continue to move California forward.

Thank you,

Alex Padilla

California Secretary of State
