Aileen Rizo Candidate for CA AD23 Campaign Statement

Image result for aileen rizo

My name is Aileen Rizo and as a lifelong learner with two master’s degrees, I have spent over 20 years in education and I have purposefully worked in mathematics education at all levels to close academic achievement gaps, empower lower economic communities, and promote groups underrepresented in these fields. In 2012, I began a fight for pay equity and became an advocate for the economic security of women in our state, working with both legislators and advocates to pass some of the strongest pay equity bills in the nation. I believe that when we pay women fairly, we make families and communities stronger. Like many in our area I have become concerned and disappointed by the way we have been represented in Sacramento. Issues that affect the growing diverse people in our district like workers rights, education, and safe and healthy environments are currently being ignored. As a mother of three children I want to know that they will grow up in a place where they are treated equally, where they can get a quality education, and where they can be healthy. Change can happen if we stand together.

Thank you for your support,

Aileen Rizo for CA Assembly District 23

ICE Action Against Immigrant Workers

We just received notice of the first large scale ICE action to take place in Fresno County.

I received a call on Saturday, from an immigrant who works at the Bee Sweet Citrus packing house in Fowler. The employees were informed that ICE or other immigration officials would do an I-9 Employment Verification on Tuesday, 2/6/18.

Bee Sweet Citrus is a huge operation with orchards and a processing operation which includes a 400,000 sq ft facility and warehouse. The 2018 season began in November and reaches full swing through the holidays, with a workforce of up to 700 employees. The Company told employees that they had nothing to worry about and they should report to work as always. However, a large number of employees have already resigned or were terminated.

Since the original notification, another notice went to employees saying the date was change to 2/20/18. That could be do to the dramatic reductions of their workforce and to avoid panic. The employees are aware that it may only be a tactic. The owner, Jim Marderosian was supposedly a big Trump supporter.

Affected employees and members of the community inquire as to the audit practice, whether it violates SB 54, AB 540 or other statutes and what Attorney General Becerra can do. In the end it may be that only political and community pressure can bring a pause to this unjust action.

We are asking concerned community members to contact their political leaders, including on the Fresno County Board of Supervisors, Fresno, Sanger, Parlier, Selma and Fowler city councils.

We also believe that Congressional Representatives, including but not limited to Jim Costa, Valadao and Nunes should feel pressure from their constituents.

We are tentatively scheduling a mobilization of support for Tuesday, 2/6/18. Details will be follow. Pleas voice your opposition to this action. For more info contact me at 559 908-6701, you can also let me know if you prefer to be dropped from updates, I understand.

We need Single Payer, do you agree?

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise: I’ve always believed that healthcare should be a right for everyone.

That’s why I’ve supported Single Payer healthcare, also known as Medicare for All, throughout my three decades in public service.

From my days as a California assemblyman in the early 1990’s to my 24 years in Congress when I represented Los Angeles (starting in 1993), my voting record will tell you this, too.

Our healthcare system is still unaffordable for too many of our California families. And just as our nation’s leaders of years past did not sit back, I will keep fighting for your health rights as your Attorney General.

When Franklin Delano Roosevelt stood up and fought for Social Security in 1935, there were many naysayers but he didn’t back down.

When Lyndon Baines Johnson stood up for Medicare in 1965, there were naysayers who even expressed fear but he didn’t back down.

We will never sit back in California. If we have the opportunity to put Single Payer healthcare forward in our state, I’m ready to fight hard for it.

None of our loved ones should have any uncertainty about being able to access a doctor or a hospital.

That’s why I’m also using every legal tool I can as your Attorney General right now to protect the affordable healthcare we have in place, thanks to the Affordable Care Act.

In fact, I’ve sued the Trump Administration on more than one occasion for trying to cut our affordable care — when it threatened to end cost-sharing payments for health subsidies and when it attempted to limit access to contraceptives for women.

Thanks to our effort in court to defend access to birth control, the Administration had to shift course, and our efforts to protect health subsidies are still underway.

I won’t sit back — not tomorrow, and not in the years ahead to defend your right to healthcare.

Can I count on you to stand with me?

Thank You,

Xavier

Demand Devin Nunes be removed from the House Intelligence Committee

Kamala Harris

Fresno County –

On Friday, Donald Trump and Republicans like Congressman Devin Nunes weaponized classified intelligence in a blatant attempt to undermine the Russia investigation.

As you well know, this had nothing to do with transparency and everything to do with playing politics with national security. It is just wrong.

We cannot allow political gain and expediency to discredit the investigation into Russia’s influence in our elections and the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia.

That’s why we need to fight back today and pressure the Republicans to remove Rep. Devin Nunes — who has acted in bad faith for well over a year now — from the House Intelligence Committee and demand they protect the Russia investigation from any political interference from the White House.

Sign my urgent petition demanding Paul Ryan and the Republicans remove Devin Nunes from the House Intelligence Committee and work with us to protect the Russia investigation from political interference. Add your name by clicking here.

I will continue to support the brave men and women in our law enforcement — including the Special Counsel — who must be given the independence to do their job and find the truth, free of political interference. I hope you join me in this fight.

Thanks for everything you do,

Kamala Harris
U.S. Senator, California

Nunes challenger seizes on FBI memo uproar

Nunes challenger seizes on FBI memo uproar

It’s been a rough week for House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, the California Republican at the center of a Washington firestorm after crafting a memo alleging bias and misconduct at the FBI and Department of Justice. But for Andrew Janz, the congressman’s Democratic opponent, things have never been better.
