My Campaign for Fresno City Council District 7

Vote Veva Islas for Fresno City Council – District 7

As we celebrated International Women’s Day, I was reminded of the significance of my decision to run for Fresno City Council in District 7. International Women’s Day is not only about celebrating the successes of women throughout the world but is also about taking action and showing leadership.

I’m running for City council because I want to make a difference and I want to help improve the outlook and opportunities for the young girls in our community. Changes that include equality in the workplace and having more diverse representation in positions of power.

Last week, I held an event and was humbled by the amount of support and the amazing words of encouragement I received. My vision for District 7 which includes building a stronger and healthier community, as well as cultivating the next generation of leaders, are reasonable and achievable goals. But I cannot do this alone; I need your help!

Please sign up to volunteer to help get our message out. Any time you can give, will make a difference. Let us know if you can host a community coffee hour, make phone calls, distribute flyers, assist with office work. If you can volunteer, please contact us via (559) 492-2339.

Lastly, I would like to thank all of the hard-working women of Fresno who continuously inspire me. Your passion and determination to fight for what’s right and stay committed to your values, even when it seems difficult to do so, is inspiring. Also, the issues women continue to face are not new, but I am proud that I am running for Fresno City Council so that I can help enact change from within and ensure that when tough policy decisions are being debated, our voice and values can be represented.

Using Power to Touch Lives

All last week you heard a great deal about the fight between Jeff Sessions and California. It was particularly disappointing to recognize that 50 years ago, on March 10th, Robert Kennedy, former United States Attorney General, came to California to break the fast with Cesar Chavez.

I grew up hearing the story of what it meant to have someone like Robert Kennedy understand the plight of farmworkers. Here’s the short video of my mom telling me about it.

We simply can’t lose hope now. It is time to fight back even harder.  One might say electing the daughter of farmworkers and of a Mexican immigrant is the perfect way to send a message to Trump and his administration that we are a better, more welcoming nation of people.

Your friend,

Labor Support for Becerra Continues to Grow

We’re excited to share the news: the Professional Engineers in California Government (PECG) — with its 13,000 state-employed engineers and related professionals — has endorsed Xavier Becerra’s candidacy to continue as state Attorney General.

PECG members are Californians who inspect and design our highways and bridges, ensure our schools and hospitals are safe during earthquakes, protect our air, water and beaches – and more.

Xavier has prioritized public safety and public health as our Attorney General. In fact, he has taken the Trump Administration to Court more than a dozen times to protect our environment — and secured at least eight legal victories to help keep our air and water clean.

PECG joins a growing list of labor endorsements for Xavier, including:

AFSCME California; California Teachers Association; Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California; California Professional Firefighters; Communications Workers of America; California State Building and Construction Trades Council; California State Pipe Trades Council; SEIU California; Laborers International Union of North America; National Union of Healthcare Workers; Equality California; the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association, and the California School Employees Association, among others.

As Chair of PECG PAC Robert Lumahan said to Xavier, “The Professional Engineers in California Government is proud to endorse your campaign for California Attorney Genera. Given your proven commitment to public servants, we know that you will continue to serve our state with distinction after your election.”

And Xavier is committed to continuing to fight for our families’ public health and safety.

We invite you to read more about his work to defend hardworking Californians here. Can we count on you to stand with him?

Thank You,

Team Becerra

Today the real campaign begins!

Delaine Eastin for Governor 2018

Today, March 10, is our first Day of Action, the day that the real campaigning begins. Supporters are canvassing all over California to begin the hard work of identifying and recruiting volunteers and voters to our campaign. I am so grateful to everyone who is walking, knocking, and sharing information about how we can create a better California for everyone.

Volunteers are the life blood of my campaign. There are less than three months until the election. Every single day matters.

Please join us to canvas or phone bank. Don’t have the time? Make a contribution to help us get the word out, or sign up to volunteer for a future event.

On Thursday, International Women’s Day, I formally filed my papers to become your next governor. That same day, my team found this picture of me from my grad school days when I was just gearing up for this fight.

Since then, I have served as a city council member, assembly member and State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Today, I am ready to serve again so that we can give the next generation a chance at brilliant tomorrows.

So let’s do this. Thank you all you are doing and for your contribution here today.

It’s official!!

It’s official!

I’m running for re-election to represent District 1 in the City of Fresno.

Dear Friends,

I’m running for re-election to the City Council because our neighborhoods continue to deserve strong leadership and more investment.

Over the last four years our team has worked hard to invest in our neighborhoods. Together we opened Inspiration Park, the Tower District Police Satellite Station, grocery stores and countless other businesses. We have also repaired streets and sidewalks, installed new traffic signal lights, and trimmed more trees. Millions of dollars have been invested in repairing our deteriorating infrastructure and planning for future development.

Additionally, we have put more police officers and firefighters in our neighborhoods.

We are proud to report that we have paid down our city debt, improved our credit rating to an “A+” from a “BBB-”, and have built a reserve of $20 million.

As your Councilwoman, my top priority will continue to be neighborhood safety and improving quality of life in our older neighborhoods. We will work to put more police officers on patrol and invest in afterschool programs.

We will continue to work hard to help create more local jobs by making it easier to do business at city hall, and finding ways to employ our youth.

I’m proud to be supported by small business owners, working families, and community leaders. I respectfully ask for your support of my journey to be re-elected.

There so much more to do!

In the spirit of Women’s History Month, you can help my re-election be a success by making an online donation.
